How a kitchen cabinet painting job runs

Six steps, no surprises.

No call centre, no salesperson. You deal with Paul from the first message to the final walkthrough.

  1. 01

    Walkthrough & written quote

Paul comes to see the space, talks colours and sheens with you, and sends you a free quote with a start date.

  2. 02

    Protect & take apart

Counters, floors and appliances are covered. Doors, drawers and hardware come off and every piece is labelled.

  3. 03

    Degrease & sand

Years of cooking grease are cleaned off, then every surface is sanded so the primer has something to grip.

  4. 04

    Bonding primer

A high-adhesion primer locks onto the old finish. This is the step that stops chipping later.

  5. 05

    Spray the finish

Finish coats are sprayed for a smooth surface with no brush marks, with drying time between coats.

  6. 06

    Reinstall & walk through

Doors go back on and are adjusted so they close evenly. We walk the kitchen together and touch up anything you spot.

Questions people ask

Kitchen cabinet painting, answered.

★★★★★
“Paul’s team was professional, thorough, responsive, and very hard working. They had some challenging tasks ahead of them: painting dark, intricate wood pieces a much lighter colour, repairing plaster walls, and removing wallpaper and patching and sanding the walls before painting. They ensured all surfaces were properly prepared, thus ensuring superior results. We were very pleased with the transformation of the family home.”

How much does it cost to paint kitchen cabinets in Toronto?

It depends on the number of doors and drawers, the condition of the wood and whether there is an island in a second colour. Paul gives a free quote after a quick look.

How long does it take?

It depends on the size of the kitchen. Doors and drawers come off, get sanded, primed with a high-bonding primer and sprayed, so Paul gives you a schedule with your quote.

Will the paint chip?

Chipping comes from poor prep. We degrease, sand and use a bonding primer before any finish coat, then let each coat dry properly. Give it a few weeks to fully cure before heavy use.

Satin or semi-gloss for cabinets?

Most of our clients choose satin. It looks rich, hides fingerprints and wipes clean. Semi-gloss is shinier and very durable but shows every flaw in the wood. Paul brings samples so you can see both on your doors.

Should I paint or replace my cabinets?

If the boxes are solid and the layout works, painting gives you a new-looking kitchen for a fraction of the cost and with almost no demolition. If the boxes are water-damaged or falling apart, Paul will tell you honestly.
